Rhythms of Hope, held at the MITP Theatre in Valleta, on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th December 2009, was Symphonik Choir's greatest concert to date! The concert featured a set of 20 songs, most of which were new material Symphonik had never performed before. Among the concert's highlights were a Beatles medley and a multicultural Silent Night, both brilliantly arranged by choir director Stephen Ferrito, as well as a piece (You're the Voice) featuring members of the Santa Venera scouts playing back-pipes and drums. The set list also included soul, pop and classic rock pieces, soundtrack, a Maltese classic, a few Christmas songs thrown in for good measure, as well as a few original songs written and composed by members of Symphonik. The concert marked Symphonik Choir's biggest upgrade yet. Every aspect of the choir was tweaked and improved. First and foremost, there was a general improvement in vocal quality and tightness. Thanks to better commitment and effort from the choir members' end, the choir could interpret harder, richer arrangements than ever before. This concert also saw a huge boost to the choir's general image, with a major wardrobe upgrade, syncrhronised choreography, and a new website. A young, dedicated band, most of whom have experience playing elsewhere, accompanied the choir brilliantly. The concert's theme focused on the feeling of loneliness and isolation, especially during the Christmas season. With Christmas closing in, everyone starts thinking about Christmas presents and how and with whom they’re going to spend the holidays. However, members of Symphonik recognise that not everyone will be spending this special time of year in company. Isolation is a tangible social problem and the feeling of loneliness tends to magnify when everyone else is celebrating.. Symphonik dedicated this concert to these people, and through musical notes of hope and joy, tried to reach out to them, while encouraging the audience to do the same. |
